EDPUZZLE for Family Day

I felt inspired by Trinidad Alcaide´s edpuzzle work in her blog Knowledge is power blog: https://edpuzzle.com/media/606a11daa5ce21428f4f8358ç So ,thinking about creating an activity using this tool, I decided to edit a video about The different Types of families because we will be celebrating the Day of The Family next week at school and I would like to bridge the vocabulary and concepts between the Spanish and English Languages.

Mini Project with Genially

Healthy Lunch Project: Motivating students to practice Speaking using Genially Presentations to edit their Performances. The idea of using genially to edit students´classroom speaking presentations arose because many of the students were reluctant or were scared of presenting in front of their peers.I planned to prepare different stages where they could practice their speaking and then, together, since we only have 23 tablets for the whole school to share, we could edit a presentation with their performances and show it in google classroom, so they could self- evaluate their work . STAGE 1: The topic chosen was the one on which we were working on at school, it is about a healthy diet and the use of there is and there are to talk about healthy meals during the day. STAGE 2: Students were given a draft where they could choose the ingredients for elaborating a healthy lunch, vocabulary has already been introduced at the beginning of the lesson. STAGE 3: Students were given a “ friendly” rubric, so they could interact while their peers were presenting. STAGE 4: Students watched a video ( included in the text book) where a student models the presentation, attention is focused in the way he looks to the audience while he speaks, intonation and gestures. STAGE 5: Students carried out the oral presentations individually because of covid restrictions, and audios were recorded. They used a paper plate as realia where they drew the healthy food for their lunch, and at the back of the plate they glued a guide where they could check to help them with the sentences in the presentation. STAGE 6: Students and teacher chose the presentation format to edit the audios and pictures taken during the presentation. In a choral way and with the help of the smart board, the presentation was created. Decisions were taken as a group, although students could choose whether their audios and pics were going to be included in the presentation or not. The use of genially, although it was a whole group way ,has motivated the students strongly. They were able to reflect and self evaluate their performance using the rubric and without being the focus of attention. Next time I would like to have the opportunity of using tablets or chromebooks for each student so they could edit and create their own presentations. Unfortunately there are few digital resources available for primary school students and the covid restrictions don't allow us to group students to carry out projects of this kind. It took four sessions to organize, create the plate with the drawing, the guide with the sentences they were going to present, the rubric, the presentation, the recording and finally the edition of the presentation. Story Jumper

Book titled 'Vélez Veloz : THE BEST RIDER AND CLIMBER FROM IZNALLOZ.'Read this book made on StoryJumper
Due to covid 19, this year students are not allowed to work in groups, so we did the task in a choral way, using the interactive smart board and choosing among all, the scripts and pictures for the story. Our starting point was a global project that we are doing at school to celebrate the Book Day and to remember and celebrate the life a local climber who collaborated with the school and passed away a few years ago in a Mountain expedition. Creativity was encouraged since students had to choose the scripts, and they had to create a story from a real character and his biography. First we made a biography in Timetoast, and now as a whole group we transformed that biography in a book. I think students were deeply motivated because they knew the main character of the book and it is part o a learning project that they are working in all the different subjects. Next time I will choose a theme less informative and maybe more fictional, so they can use their imagination too. The finished project was published in google classroom so the families could enjoy it too. Students collaborated to improve the book, first we made a draft, and then as a group we thought about things that could be improved in the story. We used a rubric, and it guided us to know which things should be included in the book.

TIMELINE WITH TIMETOAST

https://www.timetoast.com/timelines/2552418 I am sharing the timeline that my students and me created about Antonio vélez,a cyclist and climber whose life we are studying in a multidisciplinar project in my school. We started last April 23rd with the reading of the book about his life Vélez Veloz, and we have been researching data to complete this timeline. My students are in 4th grade The learning objectives of this activity were to create a biography of a local sportsman about whom we are carrying out a global project at school. The students had to create a timeline after watching a video about this person's life. They needed to find the most important events in his life and mark them within a date The main advantages of using timetoast are that it is a very easy tool to use and that the students were very motivated because they could choose the pics and add them instead of drawing them as they are used to doing in other projects. THe steps I followed were: First I projected a video about Velez´s Life, they made the draft of a timeline in their notebook, then they added the important events they got after watching the video. Finally the students shared the events with their peers and among all, the most important ones were chosen to add to the timetoast timeline. The main problem was that the students e mails ( cooperative emails that belong to the school because they are children) weren't allowed to register an account in timetoast, so after two sessions wasted trying to do it, I decided to do it with the whole group and using the interactive smartboard. The students loved using timetoast, they were really motivated and the product was so cool that they felt very proud of it. Next time I will be sure that we can use a safe email that allows them to register in timetoast. I could achieve my goal thanks to timetoast by motivating the students, creating a cooperative learning experience and showing my students innovative ways to do something new with an old assignment that they are used to doing.

My journey as a reader

Since I remember I love reading, so the means , the times and sure the topics in my readings have changed, but not the interest and the passion for it. That it is why it is so mixed with my life and my experiences as a person. I started my journey as a reader , or better said as a listener of stories, with all the wonderful stories that my grandma used to tell me and all my " primos" during our holidays in a little village in la Sierra de Segura. Then, a few years later, when I was able to read by myself, I continued my trip to literature with the help of a bunch of comics and magazines that I bought on a weekly basis, just for fun with no other interest that to see the pictures of my favorite singers or bands or tv sitcoms actors (V and the "visitantes" among the most influencial!) the funny stories in the comics and I loved graphic novels too. Lately, I found out about the public library in the little town where I used to live, and that was love at first sight. I couldn´t believe that all those books were available to me for free, and I remember reading 2 books every week: Los Cinco, Esther etc, were part of my early years as a teenager.Once I enrolled the middle school, my interests changed, and thanks to moving to a new town and meeting new friends, I started reading real novels whose main topics were mostly love with crime, love with adultery, love with travels and love and drama all the classics for an emerging teenager, but I was still reading just for fun and I don´t remember any mandatory readings before high school. High school was a busy time and a time of change for me. I started getting interested in more social issues, politics, international news, music, and thanks to moving to a new town -again- I met my friends, a group of weirdos who loved reading too, and who introduced me to wonderful writers that taught me so many things in their books, some of them made me wanted to read them in their native language which was English, so reading started my romance with English too. Reading and the band of music The Cure, of course. The more English I learned, the more opportunities to get little short stories to read in the English Language. In College, I discovered all the English classics and reading was an important part of my formation, also I started reading with a goal, to pass my tests and to get a degree. I read on a daily basis, for pleasure mostly before going to bed, I am an old fashion lady who can not sleep without reading at least a couple of pages everynight! For me reading has always been connected to learning :Books, ipads, cell phones, all of them provide me with the opportunity of using reading as a tool to enjoy, learn, have fun and hopefully being a better human being!
Welcome to DUALEDU, a blog thought to share experiences and resources in the Dual and ESL class. Also a meeting place for teachers wanting to enhance their teaching skills throughout innovative practices that include mindfulness, new technologies and social media. I hope you enjoy the journey.
